August 1st, 2005

I don’t know about you, but I cannot believe August is here already! For many of us, this means we’re on a downhill slide to the day the kids go back to school. But for me, it means sending my daughter to preschool for the first time! Now granted, she’s only going for two mornings a week, but I’ve been having a hard time since it means I have to accept the fact that my baby is growing up (sniffle). I’m also worried about Grace not minding her teacher, or not playing well with the other kids; she’s an only child right now, and is accustomed to being the queen of the castle when it comes to getting attention or playing with her toys!

Lucky for me, iVillage has lots of preschool-related articles:

10 Signs of a great preschool
Choosing the right preschool
Leaving your child at preschool for the first time
Separation issues and preschool
Helping your three-year old enjoy socializing

I’m beginning to think my worries are unfounded; Grace just completed Vacation Bible School and soccer camp, and both the Bible school teacher and soccer coach told me that Grace was a very good listener and made friends easily. I guess the moral of this story is that the first day of preschool is going to be more traumatic for her than for me! My husband says that if I’m this maudlin over preschool, he doesn’t want to be around me when it’s time for Grace to start kindergarten. Oh boy!
