Great BIG News!!!
We
want to invite you, iVillage Community Leaders, to see something very new,
very surprising and very fun
– our social network, iVillage Connect. We think you're going to love it.
You're the first group (aside from the people who work in the iVillage
offices) to be invited into the beta
version of our network.
Within
the social network, you'll be able to create
a profile that goes WAY beyond our current profiles. You can blog,
upload photos, upload
videos, create a network of
friends and send messages to
them. You can also create a
group of your own -– for example, you could create a public group
for your message board community, a semi-public group for your offline book
club and a private group for your family. Wait until you see all the things
you can do!
As
you can tell, we are really thrilled about this. This is probably the most
exciting project we've ever done. The Mods got into the network last week, and
they loved it. Here's a sample comment from Jenny, who works in Diet &
Fitness: "I hate to gush
so much, but I just love this!! I can't stop using it. Creating
groups, finding cool widgets for my page, leaving comments to my friends'
blogs...I am a total addict! Love, love, love it!"
So
how do you get to see it? Go here: http://connect.ivillage.com/
Click
on the login link at the very top of the page on the right hand side. Sign in
using your CL-name. It will take you to a set-up page and you can get started
creating your profile. OR (if you'd rather just look around first) click on
any of the photos you see on the page. And if you want to get a really good
sense of just how much you can do with the network, check out CMCaryn's
profile: http://members.ivillage.com

We're
in Beta right now, so we're still working on improvements. You may see some
things that aren't working as well as they should. We've created a special
board in the Café where you can report bugs, ask questions, post comments and
suggestions and exchange ideas about things you can do with your profile.
We've also posted a "how-to" tip sheet on the board. http://messageboards.ivillage

Because
we're in Beta, this is a special VIP
invitation just for you – iVillage Community Leaders. Please do
NOT share the link with your community or your offline friends just yet. We're
hoping that we can invite the community in at the beginning of March.
So
take a look, and then start playing! We look forward to seeing you there!
BRAINSTORM: Sensitive-topic boards and
off-topic talk: We'd like to have your thoughts on how to engage members in
lighter, even fluffy/fun, conversations on sensitive-topic boards. If
you have a sensitive topic board and have seen success in that area, what
worked for you?
What got
me thinking about it is something one of the Mods on another channel wrote in
their CL newsletter this week. I'd like to quote Pat here...
Your
board is a Community. Are your members comfortable talking with you and each
other about life in general aside from your board topic? You can make that
happen with a couple off-topic QOTWs and ending your welcome posts and
replies with a question. Imagine you’re talking face to face; engage your
guest in conversation for more than a minute. Get them talking about
themselves, therein lies the fun J
Honest!
What do you think about what she said?
I would love to see the ladies on some of our "heavier" topic boards
feel like their board is a community and they can laugh together as much as
they can "cry" together. Do you think that's doable? If
you're a member of one of those boards - do you think it's doable?
Would love to see some brainstorming and have
your thoughts. :)

If you're interested in what other CLs have had
work for a problem that you are encountering, e-mail pclmail@mail.ivillage.com.
Contributors are kept private and we'll tweak issues to make them more general
so no one can figure out who submitted. Whether it's a problem with a
co-CL or a problem with hubby not understanding your time online...these are
all important issues that make CL'ing more difficult than it should ever be!
So let us put our thinking caps on and find a solution together. =)
