Message About Gift Exchanges

On many boards, CLs and members participate in gift exchanges, and most of the time, the exchanges go well. But in the past few months, we’ve seen a couple of situations where members and CLs have exchanged personal information, then wished they hadn’t. The iVillage Community Team strongly recommends that you safeguard your personal information: don’t give out your home address, phone number or other information that could be used to identify you. If you want to participate in a gift exchange, you could instead purchase a gift from a company that will send it for you. For example, if you purchase a gift through Amazon, you can keep your personal information private if you don’t enter it into the packing slip popup

Because we’re concerned about internet safety, we discourage gift exchanges where members exchange personal information, but you can choose to participate at your own risk. However, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that the CL Guidelines prohibit Community Leaders from soliciting money or donations from other members of the community.

Stick around, stay awhile: Do you feel sometimes as if you have a "hit 'n run" board?  Members post a question or looking for advice, then once they get an answer you never see them again!  Let's brainstorm ways we can bring these hit 'n run members back to join in the regular daily doings on your board.

Got a brainstorm idea?  If you're interested in what other CLs have had work for a problem that you are encountering, e-mail pclmail@mail.ivillage.com.  Contributors are kept private and we'll tweak issues to make them more general so no one can figure out who submitted.  Whether it's a problem with a co-CL or a problem with hubby not understanding your time online...these are all important issues that make CL'ing more difficult than it should ever be!  So let us put our thinking caps on and find a solution together.  =)
